Allscripts 2011 in Nashville

An early weekly update since I will be out of commission for then next week (no cell/computer etc). Had a really good time in Nashville. You saw the first night with Alison Krauss and then the conference started. It was good overall. Really nice facility, excellent food, good lectures and got to exercise and recover... 2 things I haven't had a chance to do in a while. Tonight they had a "Music City Experience with 9 different venues including dueling pianos, 2 bands in one large ballroom, guitars and tiki bars, a jazz lounge, a dj with karaoke, an authentic Irish trio, a country/ rock/top 40 band and then a country band and all were VERY FUN! We danced, ate and played... got lots of compliments on my new boots (which you can't fully appreciate in this pix since you can't see the sequins sparkle)... Tomorrow is a FULL morning before the conference ends and then fly to Reno. We drive out to Burning Man early Thursday morning to join the melee. Check out a live web cam (if you get this on time) at www.ustream.tv/burningman ... You might see me :)

it's over :)

had another busy crazy week at work and it is over... by the time i get back on-season will be over and then Jenny will come and we will be adequately staffed and it won't be so buys. Clifford had his surgery Wed in the middle of all of it. Ken, Holly, Satori and Bohdi stayed Wed night and it was great to see them and they helped in the middle of CHAOS. Brad left for Burning Man Fri and after a rocky start on Thurs (forgetting to lock down the uhaul so it came off our trailer on the way down the hill- sometimes reading instructions are good) all is well. He and Steve are having a good adventure getting out there and Bridget and I are having a good adventure in Nashville. We flew here Sat (I didn't get home from work until 9:30 Fri so didn't start packing/cleaning the house til after that and had NO IDEA what I packed). We got here, walked around, shopped, and went to see Alison Krauss play with Jerry Douglas at the Ryman (original Opry). It was VERY good but again we didn't get home till after midnight. THEN we slept in because Bridget suprised me by having booked us here 1 day early so the conference doesn't start until tonight and we have a day of PURE RELAXATION! We are getting massages, I exercised (twas great), Bridget is still sleeping, and we are just hanging out before the conference begins. It is a luxury I haven't had in a while.
Clifford is being taken care of well and so I am more at peace.
Love and NOT STORMY weather vibes sent to all who read this...

1 week to go

So this past week was busy at work. Tis truely on-season and there is no slowing of the economy in my office (ok we are busier and working harder but getting paid less so I guess that is the economy hitting us). Had a GREAT Peer Review Committee meeting during the week and that was fun. I learn so much on that committee. Then regular work and trying to arrange surgery for Clifford. Then this weekend has been getting ready for Burning Man and doing stuff around the house. Notice our garden and our new composting bin. I have a little composting jar in my house and then bring the sludge up to the bin when that is full... supposedly that will help our garden even more next year. Last year we had corn etc, this year we got a late start and have lettuce, strawberries, spinach, etc etc... tis fun to eat out of our garden! Just gotta keep the bears away (there was a bear attack this weekend at the Bells that was quite unpleasant. BUT on a good note, Brad has been working on getting our bikes etc ready for burning man. See his creation with my bike above. Pretty funny really. Should be an adventure. I have a VERY busy week ahead this week after going to see the Buena Vista Social Club tonight and then off to Nashville for a electronic medical records conference and then to Burning Man. I will be able to update from Nashville but not after that so you get one more week and then a hiatus from me until the stories come a flowin!

This is it...

The second of 2 killer weeks has ended... last week worked >50 hours in the clinic plus 2 12 hour shifts at the hospital. I was exhausted by the end. Then while still having the pager for work which drove me crazy Fri night and Sat day I started making my way to meet friends who were camping. Finally caught up with them after Anne (who also had a killer week) took over call from 6pm Sat til 12 noon Sun since they were out of cell range. Spent the night camping and taking care of Clifford... He had hurt his leg earler Sat morning while going "mach" speed after some ground hogs. This was his good leg he hurt so, like his mom, he proved to be average in that those dogs/women who blow 1 ccl/acl likely will blow the second. He will need surgery but the Vet who did his first surgery is no longer in the area and there is only a visiting surgeon who won't be her for a few weeks. He is scheduled for surgery the 24th... I leave the 27th so it should be wild... If we don't do it then then he gets it done after I am back and then it is 6 weeks of not doing much. Since he can't do much right now we have a long several months ahead of us. Tis a real bummer.... oh well...
On to another week of work but at least this will be a more reasonable one with surely <50 hours of work :)
Life goes on and I better get back to my work as I have peer review this week and several hours of preparation for that. I do love that committee though :)

Divya

Another hard week at work... next week will be even harder BUT I did get the chance to hang with Divya this weekend and it was fantastic!!!!!!! Love my orthopedic, hand surgeon, sista from Seattle and med school... She is the most adventuresome wonderful woman I know (and the only person I know who has kayaked and slept on both the North and South Poles!)... she came Fri night after I finished work and we had a great time just hanging out and catching up, then Sat after work I met up with her for lunch, hike, massage (pampering for 2 burnt out docs) and a fantastic dinner... today we both slept in then took the gondola up Aspen, hiked the ridge and then had a great lunch listening to blue grass before she went over the pass back to Denver to fly home tonight... Whenever I think I work hard I remember her and am amazed at how she lives her life. She is AWESOME in that she is an amazing surgeon, philanthropist, adventurer and person. My hero and I am lucky to say, my friend.
